Kevinology was born in September 24th 1991 to a very devouted Catholic family and relatives who are mostly fathers & nuns.
During his high school period, he wanted to be a preschool teacher, but advancing to the finals of the KBS Creative Children Song Competition 2007 (South Korea) as well as participating in the finals of both 2008, 2009 MBC Seoduckchul Creative Children Song Competition entitled him “Teenage Songwriter”. Due to this backdrop, he has released several albums including “Songs of Catholic Infants” in the Catholic Church, and has been serve as the music team leader of the Kairosers. (Catholic Diocese of Incheon) To him, Kairosers is a source of spritual and mental activities beyond his musical careers to the extent that he calls it a “Base Camp”, and is also the birthplace of his conviction to stay within the sound doctrines of the Catholic Church, no matter what kind of music he does.
In 2009, He studied in Garam Composer Institute under Hyun duk Kang and Youngwon Noh. At the same time, he also received his classical music studies in Korean Czerny Association under Prof. Donghyun Lim. During his time of studies, he triumphed by winning the Second Prize for Music Education Newspaper Competition and despite starting late for his musical studies, Kevinology was praised highly for his talents and prodigy level.
This leads to a further success and got accepted to study in prestigious Berklee College of Music in USA in 2012. His teachers were very famous Jazz musicians such as Yoko Miwa, David Harris, Jeri Sykes and released his first single album in 2021 called Opus I: Sonata For Jazz Quartet. Kevinology has collaborated with many distinguished artists and he performs pretty much all the genre such as Classical, Jazz, Korean Traditional Music, Nursery Songs, Musicals, and CCM.
Also, Kevinology joined LALA Music as a producer in 2021 and has been communicating with various musicians.
‘가톨릭 성직자 집안’
뮤지션의 성장 배경을 설명하는 일반적인 단어는 아니지만, 케비놀로지는 친인척들의 대부분이 성직자와 수도자인 가정에서 1991년 9월 24일 태어났다.
기도하는 가정의 분위기에서 성장한 케비놀로지는 고등학생 시절 유치원 교사를 꿈꾸었으나, 취미로 참여한 2007 KBS 창작동요대회에서의 작곡, 작사 우수상을 시작으로 2008, 2009 MBC 서덕출 창작동요제에 연이어 본선 진출하며 ‘고등학생 동요 작곡가’라는 타이틀로 뮤지션의 삶을 시작하게 된다. 이러한 배경으로 그는 가톨릭교회 안에서도 ‘가톨릭 유아들의 노래’를 비롯한 여러 음반을 발매해온 바 있으며, 천주교 인천교구 지혜의 샘 북방선교기도공동체 복음문화선교단 카이로저스의 음악팀장으로 봉사해오고 있다. 카이로저스는 그가 이곳을 ‘베이스 캠프’라고 부를 만큼 그의 음악적 활동을 뛰어넘어 영성적, 정신적 활동의 원천이 되는 곳이며, 어떤 음악을 하더라도 가톨릭 교회의 건강한 가르침 안에 머무르고자 하는 그의 신념의 시작점이기도 하다.
2009년부터 가람입시작곡연구원에서 강현덕 원장과 노영원을 사사하고, 한국체르니협회의 임동현 교수를 사사하며 클래식 학도의 길을 걷던 그는 그해 가을, 음악교육신문사 콩쿠르에서 최우수상을 수상하는 기염을 토하며, 상대적으로 늦은 나이에 음악을 시작했음에도 불구, 유감없이 천재성을 드러내기 시작했다.
2012년, 미국의 버클리음대 (Berklee College of Music)에 진학한 케비놀로지는 Yoko Miwa, David Harris, Jeri Sykes 등 기라성같은 재즈 뮤지션들을 사사하며 음악적 기량을 인정받았으며, 이후 2016 KBS 창작동요대회 최우수 작곡상 수상, 2018 윤동주창작음악제에서 국악 프로젝트 밴드 ‘여울’의 리더이자 작/편곡가로서 은상을 수상하기도 하는 등 대중음악에서 클래식, 재즈, 국악, 동요, 뮤지컬, 천주교 음악 등 장르를 넘나드는 음악을 펼쳐온 바 있다.
또한, 케비놀로지는 2021년 LALA MUSIC의 프로듀서로 입사하여 다양한 뮤지션들과 함께 소통해오고 있다.
